Lucy, Linus, and Re Run Van Pelt

Lucy

Lucy Van Pelt, well known for her crabbiness and being
the boss, tries her best to always get her way and usually gets it!

When brother Linus was trying to memorize his lines for
the Christmas program, he just couldn't seem to get anything
right....that is until big sister Lucy showed him her fist .....
Linus quickly found he could say his part perfectly.

She's selfish, loud and yells a lot....proud of the fact that
she's a fussbudget. In fact, Lucy was elected Honorary
Chairman of the National Fussbudget Foundation,
which she takes very seriously......

Charlie Brown: "I thought you were coming outside to play?"

Lucy: "I changed my mind. As honorary chairman of the
National Fussbudget Foundation I have certain obligations......
I think I'll stay inside and FUSS!"

Lucy's a real pessimist.....
Lucy: "I'm a real pessimist!....I'm not ashamed to admit it
either! I'm proud of it! I was a little discouraged there
for a while but not any more.....right now I'm very
optimistic about my pessimism!"

Despite her shortcomings, Lucy does have some ideals.....
One time she went around handing out lists of faults
to each of the Peanuts gang.

Charlie Brown: "Where do you get off handing out lists of
people's faults?"

Lucy: "I have high ideals Charlie Brown.....I want to make this
a better world for ME to line in!"

Lucy tries her best to change the entire world to suit her,
but.....

Lucy: "Sometimes I get discouraged."

Charlie Brown: "Well Lucy, life does have it's ups and downs, you
know."

Lucy: "But why? Why should it? Why can't my life be all UPS?
If I want all UPS, why can't I have them?.....Why can't I just
move from one UP to another UP? Why can't I just go
from and UP to an UPPER-UP?......I don't want any Downs!
I Just want Ups and Ups and Ups and Ups!"

While she's mostly a grouch, she does have a few bright
spots but very often when you see her smiling and seemingly
doing something nice, there may be a "hidden motive" behind it.....

Lucy (holding hands with Linus) "We're brother and sister and
we love each other."

Charlie Brown: "You're hypocrites, that's what you are! Do
you really think you can fool Santa Claus this way?"

Lucy: "Why not? We're a couple of sharp kids, and he's just
an old man!"

But, Lucy's hopelessly in love with Schroeder. She bugs him
all the time and leans on his piano while he is playing. Once she
even threw Schroeder's piano up the kite eating tree just to get
his attention.

Lucy is most famous for two things:
1. Trying to convince Charlie Brown to kick the football while
she holds it for him, then at the last minute, yanking the ball
away so Charlie Brown ends up landing flat on his back.

2. Lucy also runs a psychiatric booth where she charges 5 cents
for her cynical advice.....

Lucy: "Are you afraid of responsibility? If you are, then
you have hypengyophobia."

Charlie Brown: "I don't think that's quite it."

Lucy: "How about cats? If you're afraid of cats, you have ailurophasia."

Charlie Brown: "Well, sort of, but I'm not sure."

Lucy: "Are you afraid of staircases? If you are, then you
have climacaphobia. Maybe you have thalassophobia. This is fear
of the ocean, or gephyrobia, which is the fear of crossing
bridges. Or maybe you have pantophobia. Do you think you have
pantophobia?"

Charlie Brown: "What's pantophobia?"

Lucy: "The fear of everything."

Charlie Brown: "THAT'S IT!"

However, the one thing that Lucy absolutely hates and which easily
disarms her is: a big juicy kiss from Snoopy

March 3, 1952 Lucy's debut on Peanuts.

Feb. 16, 1954 Lucy becomes a big sister.

Linus

Lucy's little brother, Linus Van Pelt inspired the
term "security blanket" with his classic pose, sucking
his thumb and holding his blanket. But Lucy felt that
enough was enough and one time buried his blanket.

Linus literally went crazy, pleading and begging and
begging Lucy to tell him where it was. Two weeks later,
Snoopy finally dug his blanket up and saved Linus from
a nervous breakdown.

Linus is an incredibly well read, intellectual, especially
considering that he's 5 years old. He can quote scripture
and seems to have a solid knowledge of philosophy and theology,
often flabbergasting his friends with his philosophical
revelations and solutions to problems.

Sucking his thumb and holding his security blanket,
Linus has that ability to put life into perspective. He knows the
true meaning of Christmas and believes wholeheartedly
that the Great Pumpkin will rise out of the most sincere pumpkin patch
on Halloween night to bring toys to all the children of
the world.

Linus has a pretty good world, except for the torments
of Lucy and Charlie Brown's little sister Sally Brown, who
calls him her "Sweet Baboo"......Linus, however, has no interest
in love and tries to ignore her.

About the blanket: Linus actually invented the term "security
blanket" Linus was rarely seen without his trusty blanket.
He dragged it on the ground behind him, he cradled it next
to his head while he dozed off and he even wielded it
as a tool and a weapon: he could snap people with it like
a wet towel, he could use it to snag something off a high
shelf, and he could use it as a disguise.

The blanket was also useful for throwing over his head
whenever Sally had showered him with too much gushy love
talk. But the blanket could also be used as a weapon against
Linus.....Charlie Brown's beagle Snoopy loved to
stalk Linus, grab his blanket, and go tearing all over the
countryside with it; Linus, who never let go of the blanket,
got dragged along with it.

Re Run

Rerun Van Pelt is often mistaken for Linus even though
he's his little brother. He can always be recognized in
his trademark overalls. Rerun is more skeptical than his
brother, much harder to convince, and always gets around
Lucy where Linus gives in.

His only fear is being the passenger on one of his
mother's bicycle-riding errands. Somehow, Rerun is the only
witness to her riding into grates and potholes. Luckily,
he always wears a helmet. Rerun also longs for a dog of
his own, but since his parents won't let him have one,
he tries to "borrow" Snoopy from Charlie Brown. Snoopy
won't have any part of it unless Rerun brings cookies.
